A robot vacuum can keep the floors clean enough to cut down on the frequency at which you'll need to manually vacuum. Choose a robot vacuum that is well-trained in navigation, can clean corners and stairs, and that has large bins that will need to be cleaned out every now and then.
There are models that can mop and charge themselves this is an option important for families with pets or children. Many of the best performers in our tests have excellent obstacle avoidance.
1. IRobot Roomba i3+ EVO
The i3+ EVO and its i3 EVO sibling, the i3 EVO are the same robots, but they differ in that the i3+ has self-emptying features. This makes the i3+ a great choice for people who want an entirely automated, hands-free cleaning experience but don't mind taking the time to empty their robot's trash bin as it gets full.
Both robots are good in removing dirt and dust particles on hard floors and carpets, and they can easily move around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates intelligent maps of your home that help the i3+ EVO navigate and clean in a manner that maximizes efficiency. The i3+ doesn't feature obstacle avoidance features like the i7+ or any other top-rated robots we tested. It can be stuck on power cords or socks and have trouble moving between different surfaces, like hardwood and rug.
iRobot suggests that you clear areas in which the i3+ EVO will vacuum prior to when you use it, and include clearing out any clutter or toys it may encounter. It's also an excellent idea to keep the dustbin and filter clear so they aren't clogged by dirt. If the i3+'s internal bin is empty or the battery is low it returns to the docking station and automatically empties the dirt into the station's dust bin. Then Suggested Looking at continues cleaning from where it started. The i3+ EVO's batteries last for about an hour and a half of continuous use, and takes around three hours to fully recharge.
2. iRobot Roomba i7+
The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the top model of the flagship line from iRobot and comes with all the latest features. It's self-charging and self-navigating. the most important feature of all -- it has an auto-emptying dustbin, which eliminates one of the most important sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.
The Roomba i7+ is able to remember up to 10 floor plans and their names thanks to Imprint Smart Mapping, which lets it map rooms so it can clean them more efficiently. It also integrates with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning tasks and control your robot using voice or through the app.
In our testing the i7+ was quicker and more maneuverable than our top choice which was the eufy RoboVac G30, and it took large pieces of pet hair from all surface types, including carpeting. Its main advantage over the eufy, is its self-emptying dustbin which eliminates a major source of maintenance and cuts down on the cost of maintenance.
We were also impressed by the i7+'s integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services which we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning sessions, move itself around the room and sweep a specific space. The process of connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and straightforward using the iRobot Home app. When connected to these services, we were able use the i7+'s voice commands, such as "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options to manage i7+ settings and monitoring performance.
3. Dyson Cyclone V10
This tiny Dyson model is an all-sports car in a sea of vacuums powered by cordless that resemble minivans and buses. It is powerful enough to replace a traditional stand-up vacuum in a majority of homes, but it is also compact enough to fit on the bookcase or coffee table.
The V10 is powered by a seven-cell, high-energy lithium-ion battery that can provide energy that is not faded for 60 minutes. Its advanced whole-machine filter system removes allergens, and then releases cleaner air back into your home. The specialized head uses rigid nylon bristles that penetrate deep into carpets and collect large dust or crumbs. It has three different suction modes that can be adapted to suit the task. It quickly converts from floor vac to handheld vacuum and back.
This model also has a dock that charges to 100% in around 3.5 hours and offers easy access to two attachments as well as a wand clip. This is a huge improvement over older Dysons that require a lengthy charge and are difficult to store.
The V10's biggest drawback is its limited run time. As CR's tests have shown, its claims to run up to 60 minutes are not true. This is a typical, not an exceptional, time for a battery-powered cordless vac. This is still enough to vacuum the majority of a home that's average size however, it's not enough to get every single area (though a second run-through usually will suffice). However, this model isn't a good choice It's lighter and more mobile than the older cordless Dysons, and its vacuuming performance is noticeably better on carpets with low pile.
4. iRobot Roomba 694
The 694 is a basic robotic vacuum that's a great choice for those who don't have lots of money to invest in a robot. It was able to pick up all kinds of debris in our tests, and frequently went over the same area multiple times to give a thorough clean. Its flat front design allows it to reach the corners and edges of walls.
Its navigation system is smart and uses iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate around your home, but it isn't equipped with the ability to map that comes with more advanced models like our top selections, the i3+ EVO and the j7+ series. As a result, it may get stuck on things like phone cords and furniture that isn't in good condition, and frequently will run out of battery before returning to its base.
The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in most respects because it has fewer components that require regular cleaning It also comes with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, incurs lower recurring costs, has more advanced automation capabilities and does a better job moving itself. It also has a larger dustbin and charges quicker.
The sleek RoboVac X8 has a superior battery life than the Roomba 694. It also has physical boundaries strips that can be controlled with the voice assistant on your smartphone. It is also more robust, has a larger motor, and is more effective on low-pile and bare floors.
5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+
Samsung is a household name in the field of home electronics. It's not a surprise, then, that they are also among the top producers of robot vacuums and mop. Jet Bot AI+ has an advanced onboard technology that allows for navigation and obstacle avoidance.
The app offers a wide range of customization options for your robotic cleaner. These include virtual barriers, mopping levels and behavior adjustments docking frequency settings and much more. It's easy to understand and user-friendly, as is the case with other Samsung devices.
In our tests during our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors, and removed 86 percent of dog hair (on carpet). However, it did not do particularly well in avoiding taller objects like cords and socks which was a disappointment. It's also more expensive than the other models we've tested, and this could be a problem for some shoppers.
The app lets you access the camera onboard of the smart vacuum. You can also create live streaming from the robot's cleaning area. This feature lets you to monitor your children or pets while you're away. The dustbin and the filter can be cleaned for a quick, painless clean-up. The Jet Bot AI+ comes with self-emptying clean stations, which helps keep the robot's bin clear and improves suction power.
6. Black & Decker Robot Vacuum
Black and Decker robots have been developed specifically for hard flooring. They feature an extra-wide cleaning path and an extra-large dust bin that can hold 2X more debris than competitors to keep the cleaning area clear for maximum runtime. The app allows you to alter the LED lights on the top of the vacuum so that you can discern where it is focusing or if it's stuck.
The app makes it possible to steer the robot manually when needed. My living room rug, for example, has a darkly-colored border that could cause trouble for other robots. However, the HRV 425BL continued to move across the border, without registering it as an incline. The ability to program a daily cleaning schedule for each week is a time-saving advantage.
